PortStrategy-Camouflage cranes for Yilport

Yilport is investing in two new, state-of-the-art ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes with a difference –camouflaged paint will be added to ensure they blend in at the Port of Oslo.

The camouflaged cranes, supplied by Konecranes, have a lifting capacity of 64 tonnes and an outreach of 40m for 15-row wide vessels. They also feature ship profiling and trim/list/skew, which is said to help improve safety and efficiency – said to make them the most silent and eco-efficient in the world. LED lighting has also been chosen for improved eco-efficiency.

They will be put to work to modernise two container terminals at Oslo to and will enable Yilport to handle two large vessels at the same time at the same berth.

“The new STS cranes allow Yilport Oslo to service larger vessels which we see as the future trend for the region,” said Eryn Dinyovszky, regional general manager. “There is also a regional trend towards consolidation of ports and we are looking to offer direct rail connections from Oslo Port to Swedish rail hubs in the near future.

Within Norway, Yilport is working to bring new cargo to Oslo by offering CFS, warehouse and rail solutions at the port. In addition, Yilport is set to open what is expected to be the most modern and efficient combi terminal in the region at its Stockholm Nord location.

“Oslo is a natural load centre for Norway, but with Yilport’s business plan this can easily extend to the entire region. With the ability to handle larger, more efficient vessels, combined with the link to on-dock rail, this will truly be a game changer,” Ms Dinyovszky added.

Delivery is scheduled for later this year.
